Letter to someone going through a difficult moment

Graphic of letters with a polka dot and hearts pattern.

Just because life is sometimes not so glamorous. It is adapted a little from a letter I wrote to myself. Couldn't post at the time because it was too recent, but it's here now with the hope that it might provide some comfort to someone who needs it.

Dear reader,

I don’t know how, maybe not even when, but you’ll make it through. There’s light at the end of the tunnel. Nothing lasts forever and everything is temporary. Those awful feelings, the awful situation. It will pass.

Truth is whilst you may have never been in the situation you are in now, you have been in hard situations before. You survived those hard situations, you managed to get through them and this is no different. It gets better. Hope - that’s what we need to hold onto. The belief that it will get better. Because when you hit a low and rock bottom, the only way is up.

You’re so strong. You don’t even know how strong you are. You’ll find things within you to get through the situation that you didn’t even know you had and you’ll come out the other end a wiser person. A person better able and equipped to face hard things life throws at you.

Sometimes hearing that things are temporary is not enough because it can feel eternal. But, you are not alone - there are others going through a difficult time and there are people who can help you. You don't have to struggle alone. There is someone out there that understands and will listen to what you have to say and your story. You just need to brave enough to ask and persist if you sometimes end up talking to the wrong person. You can ask for help -
I know you feel you cannot and are scared how people will react. But, there is someone out there willing to help you and all healthy relationships require some sort of mutual dependence. Don't be afraid to sometimes have to rely on someone and talk to them about what you are going through.

You are not your struggles. The version of you you are now - that isn’t all of you. It’s a small part of you and will become a part of your story. But it is not your whole story.  When this is all over you’ll realise the true beauty of having overcome what you were struggling with and have a clarity you did not have before. A new appreciation for good moments. ❤️
