My experience keeping a diary

by - September 07, 2018

I have always been a person that keeps a diary- I go on and off it, but in the end, I always go back to it. Recently, after a while of not keeping one, I have gone back to it. A little bit of a different post, but here is how keeping a diary has helped and continues to help me.

The huge benefit for me, which is why I feel I always end up going back to keeping a diary is the fact you write your story. Sometimes, it feels like you can't always express everything you want to express and having a diary allows you to do that. It allows you to do it without the fear of judgement of someone else or the worry that you may be misinterpreted. Because it is just for you. Especially on bad days, or where I have felt overwhelmed, keeping a diary has allowed me to be able to clear my head.

Seeing how far you've come and your growth. One of the most beautiful things for me of keeping a diary is seeing how I evolve and mature, have different ideas and learn different things about myself. I can see where I was before and realise how far I've come. It also allows you to be able to remember certain details on certain days that you may have not otherwise remembered and genuinely is nice to be able to look back on.

It is your little safe haven- sometimes you need to let things out. Keeping a diary has allowed me to vent and be able to let go of things bottled up. It is not a replacement for talking things through, but it helps to sort out your thoughts and reflect on things. It encourages me to be more reflective of my days and be mindful.

Always remember, whether you keep a diary or not, you have a voice and a story to tell.

Help keep me going 🙂
